Manual Updating

Start by obtaining the model number of the hardware you are trying to install. This is usually found near the serial number at the base of the machine. If you have the product packaging it can typically be found there as well.

Visit the manufacturer’s website. Most manufacturers have a database of device drivers available for previously made products. Some drivers work for all operating systems, while most of them are operating system specific.

Download the device driver from the manufacturer. You may need to change security permissions on your web browser to be able to properly download the driver.

Navigate to the folder that the device driver was downloaded to and double click to install. Windows 7 and Windows Vista users may be required to allow the software to make changes to their computer.

Once the device driver is installed, restart your computer.

Test your product after installing the device driver. If the installation was successful the driver will work; it wasn’t, revisit the manufacturers page to download another version.
Automatic Updating

Download Driver Detective (press “Run” on the download prompt).

Follow installation prompts. If you have Windows 7 or Windows Vista, you will be required to allow the software to make changes to your hard drive by pressing “Yes” at the prompts.

Install Driver Detective and run your first scan.

Click on the update prompt to update all drivers on your Windows operating system.
